00:01
So our skin has three main layers.
00:05
The epidermis, the dermis, and the subcutaneous layer.
00:10
The epidermis, you know, the prefix epi, tells us it's on the outer layer.
00:17
And the epidermis is made of different types of epithelial cells.
00:25
And there are many, many layers of these epithelial cells.
00:31
And the function of the epidermis is mostly for protection.
00:38
It protects us from, you know, the ground, the germs.
00:43
It's our first line of defense for our immune system.
00:47
It keeps foreign bodies out on the outside of our body.
00:53
And it helps us not to lose too much moisture.
00:59
And so below that, we have the dermis.
01:04
And the dermis is mostly made of different types of connective tissue.
01:11
And this connective tissue literally holds the epidermis to the layer below it, but it's also home to a few other things.
01:23
You have your sweat glands, you have your hair follicles, you have your hair follicles, you have have blood vessels and you also have nerve receptors, right? you have nerves that run through the dermis that allows you to feel different things.
01:51
Feel, is it hot? feel, is it cold? ouch, that hurts.
01:56
Oh, there's a lot of pressure being put on me right now...
