Ava (2ys) is playing in the living room while her mother is on the phone in the
next room. When her mother briefly leaves to check on something, Ava
suddenly begins to cry. When her mother returns, Ava initially runs toward her
but then suddenly stops, looks confused, and freezes. She might even back
away for a moment, then rush forward again as if unsure what to do.
Throughout the day, Ava exhibits inconsistent behavior-sometimes she seeks
out her mother but then seems frightened when comfort is offered, looking
away or withdrawing. At times, she even appears disoriented when her mother
is present.
