While visiting the museum, find one work of art you want to analyze and write
about.
• Identify the work of art: artist, title (if applicable), medium, dimensions,
and date it was made (this should all be available on the label near the
work of art).
• Describe what you see in the work of art.
• Finally, take notes comparing your experience in the museum and
viewing and spending time in front of art with what Norman and
Winterson discuss in their essays.
• Consider these questions in your response:
• What do you think of Norman's presentation of ways to approach
looking at art?
• Did you feel discomfort or distraction while at the museum?
• Does Winterson's experience learning more about art and its history
compare or contrast with your own as it has formed or is developing?
Compare specific ideas from her essay with your own experiences - be
specific.
• Based on your own experiences and cultural background, what do you
think of the work of art you chose? What do you think it says about
culture, generally? Does it offer any cultural significance? Why or why
