The Figure above shows an internal-expanding shoe brake system, actuated by a hy-
draulic piston that exerts the force $P_a$ on each shoe. The identical shoes have a face
width of 42mm. The lining material has a coefficient of friction of 0.34 and can take a
maximum pressure of 1000k $P_a$. Determine
(a) the allowable actuating force,
(b) the braking torque capacity, and
(c) the hinge-pin reactions.
