Task A1
Simulink Power Systems tutorial
Browse the Simulink Library Browser and answer the following questions:
1) Where can you find the Scope?
2) Where can you find resistor, capacitor, and inductor in Simscape Power Systems?
3) Where can you find voltmeter and ammeter in Simscape Power Systems?
4) What is the difference between \"Phasor\" and \"Continuous\" simulation types?
5) To find the response of the circuit, Simulink solves the circuit-based set of ordinary differential
equations (ODE). We know that, to solve ODE, knowledge of the initial states is very important.
Describe how you set the \"Initial States Setting\" to zero in Simulink Simscape Power Systems.
Task A2
Response of 2nd order series RLC circuits
1) Write the conditions for the underdamped, critically damped, and overdamped cases in terms of the
damping factor $\alpha$ and the undamped natural frequency $\omega_0$ for the series RLC circuit in Fig. 1 (Lab
section).
2) Write the complete solutions (general forms, no need to calculate) for the capacitor voltage $V_c$ of the
series RLC circuit in Fig. 1 (Lab section) for the underdamped, critically damped, and overdamped
cases.
Task A3
Other preparation for lab section
Matlab Simulink Simscape Power Systems is available on the lab computers. In later Simulink versions Power
Systems is located inside Simscape. You are welcome to bring a laptop with Power Systems installed. One
laptop per partner is preferred as this lab is an individual work.
Read \"Important notes for circuit building and simulation\" at the end of the lab description.
