A certain thermocouple has a specific time constant of 2sec. If the process temperature changes abruptly from 800 to 900°C, find the temperature reading of thermocouple after 6sec

A thermocouple is formed by soldering end-to-end wires of diameter 0.5 mm. The thermal diffusivity of the material is α = 5.3× 10?6 m2 s −1 , and its conductivity is 19.1 W m−1 K−1 . The probe initially at 30◦C is placed in a fluid at 600◦C to measure the temperature of the fluid. If the convective heat transfer coefficient between the wire and the fluid is h = 85 W m−2 K−1 , determine the time taken for the thermocouple to read 598◦C. How many thermocouple “time constants” are needed to reach 598◦C?

Thermocouple: (40 points) A thermocouple is immersed in a liquid to monitor its temperature fluctuations. Assume the thermocouple acts as a first-order system. The temperature fluctuations (in degrees Celsius) vary in time as T(t) = 50 + 25 cos(4t). The output of the thermocouple transducer system (in V) is linearly proportional to temperature and has a static sensitivity of 2 mV/°C. A step-input calibration of the system reveals that its rise time is 4.6 s. Determine: (a) Time constant (in seconds). (b) Output E(t) (in millivolts). (c) Time lag (in seconds) at ω = 0.2 rad/s.
