Lamellated corpuscles detect deep pressure applied to the skin. Which of the following properly classifies these receptors?
Madhur L.
Adi S.
Sensory receptors for the general senses can be structurally different. Receptors for pain, temperature, and very light touch are comprised of free nerve endings. These are also responsible for the sensation of itching. The receptors for temperature consist of two groups of receptors: the warm receptors and the cold receptors. Each type is sensitive to a specific temperature range. Touch and pressure receptors in the dermis consist of sensory nerve fibers encapsulated in connective tissue. These respond to deformation of the tissue and include lamellated and tactile corpuscles. Pain receptors are widely distributed, found in both the skin and the viscera. They respond to mechanical damage and/or the presence of chemicals.
