Calculate working concentrations of the two antibiotics used in the experiments described (taken from slide). NOTE: Assume the culture volume is 74.25 mL in each case (and not 75 mL as stated on the slide picture).
Added by Jeremiah L.
Step 1
From the slide, it is stated that 75 mL of culture was used for each experiment. However, we are assuming the actual volume used is 74.25 mL. For Experiment 1: - Antibiotic A was added at a concentration of 100 μg/mL. - Therefore, the total amount of Antibiotic Show more…

Concentration of Ampicillin stock = 10 mM Volume of culture medium in flask = 75 mL Volume of Ampicillin stock added to flask = 0.75 mL What is the 'working concentration' of Ampicillin in the flask? Concentration of Tetracycline stock = 1.5 mM Volume of culture medium in flask = 75 mL Volume of Tetracycline stock added to flask = 0.75 mL What is the 'working concentration' of Tetracycline in the flask?

The following data were obtained from a broth dilution test: Concentration of Antibiotic X Growth 2.0 ug/ml 1.0 ug/ml 0.5 ug/ml 0.25 ug/ml 0.125 ug/ml Bacteria from the 0.25 ug/ml tube containing antibiotic X were transferred to new growth media. The following results were obtained: Concentration of Antibiotic X Growth 2.0 ug/ml 1.0 ug/ml 0.5 ug/ml 0.25 ug/ml The data in the table show that these bacteria are pathogenic. They were killed by 0.5 ug/ml of antibiotic, were resistant to 1.0 ug/ml at the start of the experiment, were killed by 0.125 ug/ml of antibiotic, and developed resistance to antibiotics.

The following data were obtained from a broth dilution test: In the table above, the minimal bactericidal concentration of antibiotic X is: a) 25 µg/mL b) 15 µg/mL c) 10 µg/mL d) 2 µg/mL e) The answer cannot be determined based on the information provided. Provide a rationale for your answer in the space below: In the table above, the minimal inhibitory concentration of antibiotic X is: a) 15 µg/mL b) 25 µg/mL c) 2 µg/mL d) 10 µg/mL e) The answer cannot be determined based on the information provided.
