Component A is produced by a decomposition reaction in a unit consisting of a reactor and a distillate
(illustrated below). In the process, AB decomposes into A and B. A feed stream to the unit is fed into the reactor, which is
pure component AB, and a recycle stream from the distillate. The reactor effluent (composition, denoted w in % by weight) contains component A w3,A = 70 p -% and component B w3,B = 8 p -%.
The reactor effluent is passed to the distillation unit where all unreacted AB is distilled off and recycled.
recycled and reconnected to the reactor feed. The composition of the recycle stream is component AB w5,AB= 92 p
-% and component B w5,B= 8 p -%. The distillation yields a product stream consisting only of component
A and B. The pure AB input is πΜ1,π΄π΅ = 50 π‘πππππ/β.
The process operates in steady state
a) Write the balances and the necessary additional conditions (in the spirit taught in the course) in the balance areas delimited by the tentinlator's diagram 2p
b) Calculate the flow rate πΜ3 (tonnes/h) 2p
c) Calculate the recycle flow πΜ5 and how much component A is recovered from the process (tonnes/h) 2p
