If LDH was mutated or inhibited, what is a likely result under anaerobic conditions? Generation of ATP would slow due to increased pyruvate. Oxamate product would build up in glycolysis. Lactic acid buildup would occur and be immediately toxic to the cells. Pyruvate and lactate would alternate in production.

What effect would DNP have on ATP production? If added to culture media, which of the following do you predict would happen? Please explain. 1) Obligate aerobes would be able to grow but slower than before. 2) Obligate anaerobes would not be able to grow. 3) Facultative anaerobes would be able to grow but slower than before. 4) Aerotolerant anaerobes would not be able to grow.

'Suppose you discovered a mutant yeast strain whose glycolytic pathway was shorter because of the presence of a new enzyme catalyzing the reaction: Glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate +NAD+ 5 3- phosphoglycerate NADH What effect would shortening the glycolytic pathway in this way have on the cell under anaerobic conditions? What would probably happen to this cell (compare anaerobic to aerobic)? Explain your answer:'

During lactic acid fermentation, which of the following events is least likely to occur? (A) An oxygen debt builds. (B) NADH is reduced. (C) Lactate accumulates in the muscle tissue. (D) ATP is produced. (E) $\mathrm{NAD}^{+}$ is recycled and returns to the Krebs cycle.
