Okay, so i'm going to walk you through the process of doing a dye hybrid cross with these different alleles for comb characteristics in a chicken.
00:13
So the first thing you need to do is figure out what are all the possible allele combinations that each parent could give to the offspring.
00:23
So the way you do that is kind of using a foil, like a math foil method.
00:29
So parent number one could give a big r and a big p to the offspring.
00:41
Then we're going to foil this.
00:42
Parent number one could also give a big r and a little p.
00:48
Parent number one could give big r, big p, which is the same as the same as the first one, and big r, little p.
01:01
So basically, this parent has two different options.
01:06
Of alleles.
01:07
And you can simplify it.
01:10
I'll show you later on how you can simplify this.
01:12
But for right now, we'll leave all of those.
01:14
Now, parent number two could give little r big p, little r little p, little r, little p, and little r, little p.
01:32
So now we're going to set up a die hybrid cross, where it's basically a big punnet square with all eight.
01:40
Of these allele combinations in our punnet square.
01:48
Okay, so here is my punnet square with all eight of the allele combinations that we did in our foil method.
01:56
Now, you will notice that there are two allele combinations for each parent that repeat.
02:02
You don't have to include those in your proportions, but i like to just do the full punnet square...
