Members of Phylum Cnidaria differ from the sponges because they: - Most are bilaterally symmetrical. - Digest prey in primitive gastrovascular cavities. - Have tissues less complex than sponges. - Never have a sessile stage. Cnidarians are lined with special stinging cells called cnidocytes. They contain barbed, harpoon-like structures called nematocysts. The mouth of a flatworm (Phylum Platyhelminthes) is located at the end of a pharynx that protrudes from the surface of the animal. It can be found: - Anterior (front or "head" end). - Dorsal (upper or "back" side). - Posterior (behind or "tail" end). - Ventral (lower or "tummy" side). Opisthorchis (aka Clonorchis) are called hermaphrodites because each individual has both male and female gonads. The cells of tapeworms (Taenia, Phylum Platyhelminthes) are free-living and amoeba-like. How does the level of organization an animal has affect its ability to grow to a large size? (In other words, can animals with lower levels of organization get really big?)
