Match the classes of the phylum Cnidaria to the correct description. (Some will have more than one answer.) Hydrozoa Scyphozoa Anthozoa Cubozoa A. Members have polyp body forms only, and exist as colonial or solitary marine organisms. B. The Portuguese man-of-war is an example. C. The dominant stage is the bell-shaped medusa with the polyp stage absent or reduced. D. The medusoid form is dominant; it has a cubical bell that is bent inward; the polyp is inconspicuous. E. Obelia spp. and Hydra spp. are examples. F. Aurelia spp. are examples. G. Sea pansies, sea anemones, and corals are examples. H. The polyp form is dominant; fresh water and marine species exist; and the life cycle consists of an asexual polyp and a sexual medusa stage. I. Chironex fleckeri is an example.

Hydrozoa: This class is correctly described as having members with polyp body forms only and existing as colonial or solitary marine organisms. The Portuguese man-of-war is indeed an example of this class. Obelia spp. and Hydra spp. are also examples of this Show more…

Members of Phylum Cnidaria differ from the sponges because they: - Most are bilaterally symmetrical. - Digest prey in primitive gastrovascular cavities. - Have tissues less complex than sponges. - Never have a sessile stage. Cnidarians are lined with special stinging cells called cnidocytes. They contain barbed, harpoon-like structures called nematocysts. The mouth of a flatworm (Phylum Platyhelminthes) is located at the end of a pharynx that protrudes from the surface of the animal. It can be found: - Anterior (front or "head" end). - Dorsal (upper or "back" side). - Posterior (behind or "tail" end). - Ventral (lower or "tummy" side). Opisthorchis (aka Clonorchis) are called hermaphrodites because each individual has both male and female gonads. The cells of tapeworms (Taenia, Phylum Platyhelminthes) are free-living and amoeba-like. Roundworms (Phylum Nematoda) are: - Acoelomate complete. - Acoelomate incomplete. - Pseudocoelomate complete. - Pseudocoelomate incomplete.

Match the phylum name with the distinguishing characteristics. Aquatic, sessile, body has pores and channels to filter feed, no tissues Exoskeleton, body divided into segments (head, thorax, abdomen) Dorsal nerve cord, notochord, pharyngeal slits Pentaradial symmetry, water vascular system Segmented, worm-like body, complete digestive system Mantle, muscular foot, visceral mass, hard external shell in most members Flat, worm-like body, digestive tract with single opening Radial symmetry, two tissue layers, stinging cells Round, worm-like body, no segmentation, tapered at both ends Arthropoda Porifera Chordata Echinodermata Annelida Cnidaria Platyhelminthes Mollusca Nematoda
. Which phylum is characterized by animals that have a segmented body? \begin{equation}\begin{array}{ll}{\text { (A) Cnidaria }} & {\text { (C) Arthropoda }} \\ {\text { (B) Platyhelminthes }} & {\text { (D) Mollusca }}\end{array}\end{equation}
