Is found in ligaments and tendons, is almost entirely collagen with bundles arranged in parallel. Covers the articulating ends of bone, most abundant type of connective tissue. Contains little elastin, resists stretching in all directions, creates sheaths around muscles and nerves. Contains a random orientation of relaxed fibers and can tolerate ~200% strain. Contains a parallel orientation of taught fibers and can only tolerate approximately 10% strain. Contains little collagen and a lot of elastin, is elastic in all directions, found in the trachea and bronchial tubes. Contains parallel elastin fibers, "stretch ligaments". Multi-layered structure with high collagen content. Serves as force attenuators, increases surface area in joints, provides stability.
