Electrolytes Ionic Sodium Base Salts Associate Dissociate Molecules with bonds between their components will fall apart in water, releasing charged particles called ions. Ionically bound molecules consisting of oppositely charged ions are called salts and are abundant in tissue and fluids. The release of charged particles when salts dissociate in water results in an electrically conductive solution. Thus, these molecules are also called electrolytes. A molecule that contains hydrogen ions can dissociate. An ionically bound molecule that releases an ion that binds with H+ is classified as a base.

Choose the most accurate definition for electrolytes. Electrolytes are all substances whose aqueous solutions conduct electricity. Electrolytes are all substances that conduct electricity. Electrolytes are all liquids that conduct electricity. Electrolytes are all ionic compounds that are soluble in water.
