Looking at the world of geology, we have three different prominent people here, and we're gonna just very briefly explain their contribution and how their view of the earth was different from each other, was distinct.
00:12
So starting up with cuvier, this man essentially believed in catastrophism.
00:19
So he believed that changes, especially to species, like big changes like extinction, came via catastrophes.
00:32
So most species, you know, we're fine, they're doing great, or maybe they're not doing so great, but they're still here, unless you have a big catastrophic event that causes extinction, or might cause them to dwindle down so much that they do end up being distinct, right? it's the catastrophes that really are the catalyst for significant changes in species.
00:58
Next up we have lyle.
01:00
This person essentially believed that changes, especially again like extinctions, happened not from catastrophes, but because of slow and gradual changes to the earth.
01:19
So these processes of species changing or becoming extinct are natural processes of the earth that can't really be changed, can't really be stopped, and will happen over time...
