The peroxisome is a membrane-bound vesicle containing enzymes synthesized by cells. Peroxisomes are primarily found in cells that are breaking down and synthesizing substances. Peroxisomes contain enzymes that are responsible for oxidizing organic substances. They also contain the enzyme catalase, which breaks down the hydrogen peroxide that builds up in tissues after organic substances are oxidized. Actin filaments move the cell and its organelles through interactions with microtubules, specifically dynein. When movement is needed, dynein uses ATP to move one leg apart and down the microtubule and the other leg follows, moving the organelle.
