Part A: Standardizing a Titrant
A 1.502 g sample of primary standard Na2CO3 (sodium carbonate; molar mass 105.99 g/mol) was weighed out into a 250 mL beaker and diluted with 50 mL of distilled water. Several drops of bromocresol green indicator were added to the solution, which turned blue.
The bromocresol green indicator is blue when it is more basic than an equivalence point, green at an equivalence point, and yellow when it is more acidic than an equivalence point.
A buret was filled with a solution of approximately 1.0 M hydrochloric acid HCl. The initial volume reading on the filled buret was 4.56 mL.
The titrant, HCl, was used to titrate the Na2CO3 in the beaker with bromocresol green indicator. When the buret read 25.25 mL, the solution went from green to yellow.
Determine the number of moles of Na2CO3 titrated.
