which of the 5 prezygotic reproductive barriers do you think happens more frequently and why?
Adi S.
No matter what the mode of speciation is, speciation involves a reduction in gene flow. Eventually something must prevent individuals from the two populations from freely exchanging genetic information. As long as they can freely exchange genetic information than whatever genetic differences exist between them will disappear and speciation will not occur. See Reproductive Isolation for an explanation with examples. Often reproductive barriers are classified according to their timing relative to zygote formation. Basically you have Prezygotic and Postzygotic reproductive barriers. Comparing two different, but closely related species, you notice the following. Which may be prezygotic reproductive barriers (you can choose more than one)? a. Incompatibility in reproductive organs. b. Differences in timing of ovulation. c. Matings between members of the two different species produce infertile offspring. d. Differences in timing of birth (one gives birth in the spring, one in winter). e. Differences in mating calls.
