So in this video, we're going to be looking at how many atp are going to be produced in glycolysis, in the conversion of pyruvate to acetyl coe, and then in the total oxidation of glucose.
00:12
And this is all going to be occurring in skeletal muscle.
00:15
So first we're going to be going to be looking at glycolysis, which is going to be glucose up here to pyruvate down here.
00:26
So in the beginning of glycolysis, we're going to be using two atp.
00:30
And that's kind of like an activation step.
00:32
So i write minus 2 atp to kind of get this process going.
00:38
Now underneath fructose 1 6biz phosphate, i drew a line, and that's to delineate.
00:43
Anything below this line is going to be multiplied by 2.
00:46
And that's because fructose 1 6 bis phosphate is a 6 carbon molecule.
00:50
And this 6 carbon molecule is going to be split into 2, 3 carbon molecules.
00:55
So that's either going to be glycerobahid 3 phosphate or dihydroxiazotone phosphate.
01:01
And dihydroxy acetone phosphate can be converted into glycerolide 3 phosphate.
01:06
So ultimately i like to say that fructose 1 6biz phosphate is going to give two glyceroldehyde 3 phosphates since that's the one that's going to be carrying on with the rest of the process.
01:18
So now we just have to remember anything below this line, you have to multiply it by 2.
01:23
So next we are getting nadh here.
01:26
But again, because we're below this line, we are actually getting 2 nadh.
01:32
And in skeletal muscle, 1nadh is going to be equivalent to 1 .5 atp.
01:40
Now, if we were in the heart or the liver or even in the mitochondria, 1nadh would be equivalent to 2 .5 atp, which will come in handy when we talk about it down here.
01:55
So in this case, since we're in the skeletal muscle, the 2nadh is going to be worth 1 .5 each, so that's going to be 3 atp total.
02:06
Here we've got another 2 atp.
02:11
I'll circle this so we can remember.
02:13
And then lastly, in the conversion of phospholino pyruvate to pyruvate, we are getting another 2 atp.
02:21
So in total for glycolysis, we are getting negative 2 atp for that activation step in the beginning.
02:28
And then we are getting positive 3, positive 2, and positive 2.
02:31
So that's going to be a total of positive 5 atp just for glycolysis...
