Question 15 (1.5 points) Joanna a 17-year-old female is complaining of generalized fatigue, a mild cough and low grade fever. What stage of disease do her signs and symptoms best represent? 1) convalescence 2) incubation 3) illness 4) prodromal Question 16 (1.5 points) Which of the following statement is the MOST CORRECT about endotoxins 1) Bacteria dies releasing endotoxin 2) Symptoms include fever, chills, shock, and even death 3) High amounts of endotoxins are required for lethal dosage 4) All of the above Question 17 (1.5 points) Lungs, heart, kidneys and liver are among organs that can be targeted by SARS Cov 2 due to 1) Presence of CD4 receptors 2) The virus ability to degrade angiotensin converting enzymes (ACE) 3) Easy access from the mucosal sights 4) Presence of ACE 2 receptors

There's a worldwide outbreak of an unknown infectious viral disease. However, in your country thousands of patients are admitted to a hospital daily due to severe headaches and pulmonary complications and this are the suspected symptoms caused by the virus in question. As one of the best epidemiologists in your country, you were invited to assist to find the solution for this pandemic. 4.1 Based on what you have learnt, Identify and discuss factors that would cause and promote the development and spread of this novel human disease. 4.3 Explain in detail how you would conduct the study to clarify the etiology and the risk factors for this pandemic. 4.2 Describe important calculations that may be used to monitor the progress of this pandemic. 4.4 Discuss measures that should be used to prevent and control the pandemic.

You are currently an epidemiologist working for the WHO. You, along with a group of 20 colleagues, are formulating a plan to contain this pandemic and potentially devise a vaccine/cure for it. Using at least three medically/scientifically accredited sources (see "South College Library" website for possible sources), answer the following: 1. When treating any infection, it is important to "know your enemy." What are some intrinsic/specific features of the SARS-CoV-2 virus which render it unique when compared to other pandemic viruses? 2. From an epidemiologic perspective, how would you explain the reasons as to why the virus has been able to disseminate among the nations? 3. What are the standards of care/management options for SARS-CoV-2 virus? 4. How do we determine who requires testing for this virus? What are some exclusion criteria for testing for SARS-CoV-2? What would be the potential harms in testing a large enclave of the population for SARS-CoV-2 (would this change your management of the virus)? 5. There have been 2 potential interventions which have been suggested for the treatment of SARS-CoV-2 based on "in vitro" testing: Azithromycin and Hydroxychloroquine (an anti-malarial medication). What is the evidence that either one of these is sufficient for the treatment of SARS-CoV-2? KEEP IN MIND THE FOLLOWING: In order to introduce a treatment for a particular disease/infection, the BENEFITS MUST OUTWEIGH THE RISKS. Is this the case with these two treatments? 6. What population(s) of patients are most highly affected by SARS-CoV-2? In the United States in particular, what are some risk factors which could predict worse outcomes? 7. How long will this viral pandemic ravage the world? What are some of the statistical projections which predict how long it will be before the virus is managed? 8. What are some of the ways in which the population can mitigate/decrease the transmission of the virus among the population? Is there evidence which supports "social distancing?
