Why did the 46 year old patient have high levels of ACTH? The lack of adrenal gland hormone production interrupted the negative feedback loop. The increase in adrenal hormone production caused an increase in ACTH production. Low blood sugar and low blood pressure caused the increase production of ACTH. A reduction in CRH increased ACTH production.
