00:03 This is a widely used staining technique that helps us differentiate gram positive from gram -negative bacteria.
00:12 Essentially, when we do a gram -stain, the purple -color cells are going to be those that retain the stain, and it will not decolorize as the cell wall of gram -positive bacteria are impermeable to the decolorizer.
00:27 Gram -negative cells will get decolars by alcohol, and they will instead appear pink, only having some residual stain.
00:34 So if we get a positive result from our gram test, the next test that we would do is the catalase test.
00:43 And this is a test that's used to find out whether the cells can produce catalase enzyme or not...
