Order the steps of antibody production from start to finish. Process of Antibody Production 1 Gene rearrangements determine the antibody specificity of any given B cell. 2 Naïve B cells leave the bone marrow. 3 Antibodies specific to a foreign antigen are produced and secreted. 4 B cells encounter a foreign antigen with specificity for their particular antibody. 5 Activated B cells differentiate into plasma cells.

During the last 3 months of pregnancy, antibodies (IgG type) are preferentially passed from the mother, through the placenta, and into the fetal blood supply. These antibodies remain functional in the baby's blood for a few months after birth. These "maternal antibodies" are considered a form of "passive immunity". Explain the concept of passive immunity and why this situation falls into that category. Explain why it is beneficial for the baby to get these antibodies from the mom (be specific). There are four main mechanisms by which antibodies help the rest of the body fight infection. Describe how these mechanisms can protect the baby during its first few months of life.
