This is an exercise in the movement of substances across a selectively permeable membrane, to illustrate how the cell membrane operates within the cells of our bodies. If the integrity of the cell membrane is destroyed, the cell will perish.
1. Describe in your own words the concepts of diffusion and osmosis.
2. Hemolysis and Crenation. Describe in your own words what happens to a red blood cell when placed in a hypertonic solution, an isotonic solution and a hypotonic solution. How does this relate to dehydration?
3. Define the following organelles, name their primary function:

g. Plasma/Cell Membrane
4. Be able to label all the parts of a cell on a diagram. Study the diagram from the Lab or Lecture book.
