Biography

I majored in mathematics at Rutgers University and started teaching in New York City public schools right away. I earned my Masters from St. John’s while I taught. I have taught 1 year of 7th grade math, one year of geometry, and I have now found my niche teaching Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, and AP Calculus over the last 3 years. I love every minute of it! While math is great, the best part of teaching is forming connections with the students and watching them develop over the years. Nothing beats witnessing a student’s “Aha!” moment and knowing I had a part to play in that.

Graph the functions in Exercises 9 and $10 .$ Then answer these questions.
a. What are the domain and range of $f ?$
b. At what points $c,$ if any, does $\lim _{x \rightarrow c} f(x)$ exist?
c. At what points does only the left-hand limit exist?
d. At what points does only the left-hand limit exist?

$$f(x)=\left\{\begin{array}{lr}{x,} & {-1 \leq x<0, \text { or } 0 < x \leq 1} \\ {1,} & {x=0} \\ {0,} & {x<-1 \quad \text { or } \quad x>1}\end{array}\right.$$

Explain why the following five statements ask for the same information.
$
\begin{array}{l}{\text { a. Find the roots of } f(x)=x^{3}-3 x-1} \\ {\text { b. Find the } x \text { -coordinates of the points where the curve y= }x^{3}} \\ {\text { crosses the line } y=3 x+1 .} \\ {\text { c. Find all the values of } x \text { for which } x^{3}-3 x=1 \text { . }} \\ {\text { d. Find the } x \text { -coordinates of the points where the cubic curve }} \\ {\quad y=x^{3}-3 x \text { crosses the line } y=1 .} \\ {\text { e. Solve the equation } x^{3}-3 x-1=0}\end{array}

Refer to the following diagram for the roof of a house. In the figure, $x$ is the length of a rafter measured from the top of a wall to the top of the roof; $\theta$ is the acute angle between a rafter and the horizontal; and h is the vertical distance from the top of the wall to the top of the roof.
Suppose that $\theta=39.4^{\circ}$ and $x=43.0 \mathrm{ft}$
(a) Determine $h$. Round the answer to one decimal place.
(b) The gable is the triangular region bounded by the rafters and the attic floor. Find the area of the gable. Round the final answer to one decimal place.

Students are buying books for the new semester. Eddie buys the environmental statistics book and the set theory book for $$\$ 178$$. Leah, who is buying books for herself and her friend, spends $$\$ 319$$ on two environmental statistics books, one set theory book, and one educational psychology book. Mehmet buys the educational psychology book and the set theory book for $$\$ 147$$ in total. How much does each book cost?

The percentage of adult height attained by a girl who is $x$ years old can be modeled by $$f(x)=62+35 \log (x-4),$$ where $x$ represents the girl's age (from 5 to 15 ) and $f(x)$ represents the percentage of her adult height. Use the formula to solve Exercises. Round answers to the nearest tenth of a percent.
Approximately what percentage of her adult height has a girl attained at age $13 ?$

'Five probability events are listed below_
Label each event as either
Independent Dependent
You roll a fair six-sided number cube and flip a coin. What is the probability that you will roll a 6 and land on tails? Independent Dependent
You draw a marble out ofa bag of yellow and red marbles, replace it and draw again: What is the probability you will get two yellow marbles? Independent Dependent
You draw three marbles out of a bag with red and blue marbles in it, without replacing them_ What is the probability they will all three be red? Independent Dependent
You have a deck of 20 cards numbered 1-20. You draw a card from a deck and keep it: The next person draws another card. What is the probability You will both draw an even card? Independent Dependent
