Hi! I am so excited to be considered for this position as a Numerade educator. My name is Kelly Lentsch, and I am an incoming senior at IUPUI majoring in biology with a pre-physical therapy concentration. I am seeking opportunities to gain more experience in the biology and mentoring field, and I believe that this position fits perfectly. Especially with Numeradeās outstanding reputation in the academic and education field, I am excited just to be considered for this position.
During my time at IUPUI, I have gained skills and experience that I believe would make me a great fit for this job. This past academic year, I served as a Biology Mentor for the Bepko Learning Center at IUPUI. As a mentor, I taught a mandatory weekly hour and 15 minute long recitation for students in the first semester of biology class. I also led a weekly tutoring hour for students in this course, and helped plan and execute exam review sessions throughout the semester. Additionally, I completed various tasks for the professor of the class, such as helping write the key for the recitation manuals that students use in the course. I am confident that this experience, as well as many others I have had throughout my time as a student, makes me an excellent candidate for this position.
Aside from my time as a Biology Mentor, I have also gained experience in the biology field through my research in the Meyer Stem Cell Lab. I started there as a freshman, sterilizing equipment and executing administrative and organizational tasks in the lab. I have since become an undergraduate researcher, and now work with graduate students and the personal investigator on a new project. I have been privileged to have this opportunity, and it has taught me an immense amount about sterilization, research techniques, communication, teamwork, biology and physiology, and much more.
I have also gained valuable skills I believe make me a good candidate for this position throughout my time at IUPUI. I have taken classes not only in various types of biology such as genetics, cell biology, developmental biology, and ecology and evolution, but also in anatomy and physiology, chemistry, structural kinesiology, medical humanities, physics, and calculus. The knowledge I have been able to obtain from these classes will aid not only in my understanding of the biology curriculum, but also in my teaching techniques.
